Today is our one year anniversary of moving from here
to here.
I thought it would be nice to look back at how things have changed.
I’ll zip through the changes we’ve made to the place.
We’ve added some toys…..oh yeah, I’m supposed to call them tools.
We cleaned a really dirty barn.
We added to our flock of geese for a grand total of eight.
Michael replaced all the toilets in the house.
My dad and his friend removed wallpaper and painted all the walls in the house.
We were given our first two goats. Hi Halle Berry and Brown Sugar.
We added some fun things for the goats to play on and a place for us to put our compost.
We put in a much larger garden than we have ever had thanks to some wonderful people giving us starts.
We bought our own chicks and patiently waited for eggs.
Michael built himself a shop with a little help from some friends.
Bucks. We are now the proud owners of three handsome guys.
We created dry lots for both the does and the bucks.
Michael extended his skill set by learning how to work with electricity when he added a motion sensitive light on the outside of the barn.
He also made me a cabinet to go in the laundry room and finished replacing all the trim in the upstairs.
He built us two more barn doors
We became the proud new owners of the three cutest doelings in the world…and then tattoed them.
Michael tried (unsuccessfully) to teach me to put up field fencing.
Michael put a waterproof roof on the outside pen for the chickens.
We both took a three day class to learn how to prune the fruit trees in our orchard.
We welcomed our first egg.
Michael built us some bookshelves to fit all of our books.
We added mason bees to our homestead.
We added an outdoor chicken run so they could eat more bugs and grass. Mmmm, orange yolks are the result.
We assisted in our first kidding here on Salt Creek Acres.
We’ve had some losses as well. Our eight geese are now three.
Our delightful cat that adopted us left us one day in December never to come back.
We also have had more than our fair share of breeding. Goats.
We have taught an old dog some new tricks.
We made our own apple cider and goat milk soap.
Michael got to live out Swamp Loggers by water logging our own creek.
That’s it.
So now I know why I’m so tired each night. It’s exhausting watching that man do all that stuff.
We also found out that we have the nicest neighbors. It has been wonderful to meet and get to know them. God has blessed us with great people.
It has been a busy year both physically as well as mentally. We have been challenged and frustrated. We have experienced big adventures and big emotions. God has been with us all the time. We sometimes have to remind ourselves that God provided all of this so it must be where He wants us.
Thank you to everyone who has been following along this journey we call life. It certainly has been an adventure.
Hugs,
Karen
Thanks for giving us a peek into your beautiful homestead, Karen. Is that what you call it? Or a farm. Both? Anyway, I loved seeing all you have done , the amazing transformations and how God has been faithful in your family. Too bad about that cat, it was very cute. My kids keep begging for us to get a cat but we have asthma and allergy issues and I’m not quite ready to deal with all that could entail if we get a cat we cannot keep it. Then I will be the bad mommy. Loved seeing all the great pictures!
Thanks. It was fun to look back over the year.
We all love cats and I am asked if we can get another but right now I have enough on my plate. So yes, I’m bad mommy when the subject comes up.
Enjoy the day,
Karen
Wow! I need a nap after reading all that. Good job you guys. You are an amazing example to all. God is good and I know he will continue to bless you and your life on the farm.
Love and Prayers,
Lisa
Thank you dear sister.
It is an adventure. Had another (not so pleasant one) this morning.
One year down only ??? to go until we get this self sufficient lifestyle down. A girl can dream.
Hugs,
Karen

What an excellent post. Happy Anniversary! You have learned and accomplished much and I ‘m so glad youv’e blogged about it. Here’s to many, many more wonderful years.
Thanx Leigh.
I enjoy the blog and one of the reasons is that it is like a journal for me.
I enjoy your blog as well.
Take care,
Karen
All I could think of while I was scrolling down your one year accomplishments was “AMAZING!”
And then I read some of the other comments, and that was the word most used to describe all that you’ve done. You are living the dream, (but we appreciate the hard work too). Love to you all.
We really do enjoy being here.
Is there any chance you guys will ever be in the area again?
I would love both of you to visit….I know, we are on the opposite side of the country 🙂
Love you both,
Karen
