With the typical winter rain we get here in Oregon, we have accepted that our lower pasture will flood each year, and stay flooded sometimes for weeks. Not a huge problem for us, and it brings in a lot of waterfowl to watch. It is also impressive how much water levels can rise and fall with the rainfall.
Our geese love it too, because when the pasture floods the water rises above fence-line that keeps them in their pond area, and they get to escape into the great big world. It’s really fun seeing them cruising all over. They sure seem happy.
No matter where they are out in the great big flooded pasture, if we call or whistle to them, they will call back. And this morning on the way back from the barn I called them and they came a running swimming from the far end of the pasture.
They knew it was breakfast time!
Here is a short video of their arrival to this shoreline. I wasn’t able to get them filmed when they began the journey from across the pasture, but they were swimming really fast. Like a trio of battleship cruisers on a mission. Aren’t they cute how excited they are!
Have a great day,
Michael
I swear toward the end I could hear them saying ‘thanks papa’…hmmm
That’s funny. We kinda hear it too.
Take care,
Karen
Dear fellow Gooselover,
Had to laugh when they came running. One of those priceless joys.
You all are truly awesome.
Much love from the Stebbings
They are so noisy 🙂
In the morning, when we go out to the barn, they see us and start honking. They probably wake up more people than all of our roosters combined.
We really do enjoy them.
Hugs,
Karen
Was down in your area a few days ago and was amazed at all the standing water along the highway. In one seasonal pond a bit north of you were six or eight swan enjoying the water. I wondered if you were up to your elbows in mud. rita
Yes, tons of water. It started going down today.
We don’t have a lot of mud but a lot of sogginess.
Karen
Too funny. They are like PETS!!! xo
Pets….not really. Pretty much all of our animals associate us with food. The chickens all run to me whenever I go out into the upper pasture. Almost always I’m bringing them kitchen scraps so they assume I have something yummy for them.
It’s all fun.
hugs,
Karen
