Well, it happened. Sooner than I thought it would.
Yesterday Michael found an egg in the chicken coop. Yeah!
Being green, it was laid by an Americana. It is a good month earlier than I thought we would have eggs.
Maybe she is an early bloomer.
It is small, which we expected. My understanding is that the older the hen is the larger the egg is.
Here it is next to a store bought large egg.
Our egg weighed in a 1.3 ounces. The store bought egg beat it out at 2.3 ounces.
We have our first egg….how cool is that.
Ta Ta For Now,
Karen
It’s such an exciting time, isn’t it! We have Americaunas too and I love seeing their green eggs! Enjoy your chickens – and those delicious eggs that taste like no other!
Thank you, I’m so excited to have our own eggs. My son had it for breakfast this morning.
Thanx for visiting,
Karen
You made me smile — congratulations!
Thanx Rita. We were pretty happy about it. My eldest son ate it for breakfast.
Thanx for visiting,
Karen
Congratulations on your first healthy, nutritious, and delicious!
This is so exciting!
It was great to see it and for whatever reason your reply reminded me to make my chart for how many eggs we get.
I’m hoping to track all produce, milk and eggs in 2015.
Have a great day,
Karen
That’s such a great idea. You can monitor seasonal changes and anything that may effect production.
Do you have any more eggs?
Did you get to try them?
Kimberly
Yes, we found one more today.
Joshua ate the first and the second is in the refrigerator.
I need to pick up some fake eggs and put them in the nesting boxes so they know to lay eggs in there. Right now they are just “wherever”.
Yes, we are going to track milk, eggs, produce all year long.
It will be a hassle to weigh the milk and produce but I think it will be worth it to know what we are producing as well as to see the norm.
Then if there is a sudden drop off we can investigate.
Enjoy your weekend. I’m off to clean out the buck’s stall and then the chicken coop.
Karen
Congratulations! It’s always so exciting to collect the eggs. It makes all the chores worth it!
Yes it is fun. I actually found my first one this morning. Our Ameraucana’s seem to be laying the most.
Thanx for visiting,
Karen
