I dried more apples and again I realized how little food we waste. Since we grow our own apples I chose to not work so hard around blemishes, bugs etc. I just cut those parts out and put them in the waste bowl.

But the waste bowl doesn’t actually go to waste. I can give it to the chickens and they love it.

I can also give some things to the goats. They go wild for any treat.

Yes, Halle Berry (resident foodie) got  her face into the bowl and grabbed three slices of apple at once. She is such a little pig. I can say that because not only does she not speak English but she can’t read either. Or for that matter know how to use the computer to access the blog.

The other goats seem more gentle. Not really though. Brown Sugar was ramming goats in their sides to get them away from the apples. Oh, and you know how we moms share our food with our children? “Oh, you like this? Please take it and eat all of it. Mommy has had enough” (as you are secretly starving). That doesn’t happen in the goat world. Moms don’t care who they butt out of the way to get to their food.

This was a dangerous moment. I was swarmed by all the goats trying to get to the bowl of apples. A log was behind me and as they all jumped up on me I began to fall backwards. Michael was not too far away and he came to my aid. As you can see I’m actually handing him the bowl of apples. I just knew that if I went down with that bowl then it would be over for me. They would have jumped over that log and trampled me to get to the apples. I had a quick glimpse into what it must be like for Mic Jagger. I feel for him. A swarm of stirred up females is a frightening thing.

Over those two days both the chickens and the goats ate a bunch of apples and cucumbers. You know, my overload of cucumbers that I talked about here, well I don’t need to feel bad because they don’t go to waste even though they are huge and all seedy. Goats love them and chickens too.

Today I was picking plums to dehydrate and the ones the were over ripe or were partially eaten by bees I just chucked over the fence  and the geese eat them.

Prior to moving here I never imagined that we would be able to say that we truly don’t waste food. It goes to the chickens most of the time (because they can eat almost anything), next to the goats and the geese and lastly the compost bin.

I love it!

Thanx for following us along on this adventure we call life.
