Halloween marked eight weeks since the two baby does had been separated from their moms. The night before Michael thought it was time to put them back together again.
As you can see in the first picture, everyone was very curious about the two “new comers.” The babies immediately took high ground which allowed them to not be physically pushed around. Eventually the crowd dispersed.
Did Halle Berry and Brown Sugar know these were their babies? Well, a lot of sniffing went on. Also some friendly head butting.
They seemed to know who the babies were.
What we were most concerned with was would they start nursing again? Sure enough the younger of the two, Sandi, went for the milk. Michael squirted her with a bottle of water. She stopped. And then we left. That was late Friday afternoon.
That evening when it was time to milk Halle and Brownie, gosh, Halle didn’t have any milk! Sandi was back to nursing again.
Michael decided to leave them there over night hoping that Halle would wean Sandi herself.
The next day’s morning milking went better. Halle had her usual amount of milk. Michael decided to let them stay all day . That night we only got about half of what we were use to getting from her. Michael decided to separate them again. Both babies went back into their separate stall.
What we need to do is cover her teets which keeps Sandi from nursing but allows them to be together. The idea that came to my mind was something like a cummerbund. But, would that encourage moisture? If I could sew, I could make something like a muslin bag with strings to tie it onto her.
I don’t sew.
Some people put tape on the teets but we have tried that before and the tape always fell off.
So, off to the drawing board.
Have a great day,
Karen
…. To be continued, I hope.,
If only I was a seamstress.
I’m still trying to learn how to be a country girl. I just don’t think I should throw in learning how to sew.
Hugs,
Karen
Hmmmm…I will be so interested to see how you solve this one Karen! It would be so nice if they could be all together. Have a fabulous Wednesday!
I thought about using an old bra with something attached so we could tie it around her back.
My husband said my bras were too small!
Hugs,
Karen
