What a busy couple of weeks it has been. I was hoping for less stuff to do but that always seems to be on the horizon.
I thought I would spend a couple posts updating you on what is going on here.
Last update we had harvested the apples and made a bunch of cider. Well, the next weekend found me in the kitchen baking things with some of the apples we didn’t turn into cider. I went looking for recipes that not only used apples but I could freeze for consumption down the road.
I ended up spending a weekend in the kitchen baking. I make two different apple muffins (about 28 muffins), some apple bread (3 loaves), an apple bundt cake, and something called apple bars. We have liked everything I made that we have tried. Still haven’t tried the bread or the bundt cake.
Made some more homemade soap. Only one batch that day because that is all I had time for.
I would really like to make three or four batches the next time I make it. That will last me a long time.
That next week was busy with some trips to Portland and our usual business each day. At the end of the week we helped my mom and dad move.
It was a long 12+ hour day but we got everything out of one house and into the new one (above). The whole family was involved and it went as well as it could have. I think we should all just stay put for a while.
If we are friends on Facebook, you might have seen my post about boarding Jasper for a while. Misfit Farms needed a place to keep him during breeding season. We were happy to have him with us for a while.
He was there at least a week before he got to excited about the girls being so close and he jumped out of the stall. Twice. Michael put up some temporary wood . It has worked in keeping him in his stall.
On that Sunday, Michael took the boys to our gun range so the boys could attend a class to finish up their hunter safety program and get their licenses to hunt.
I spent the day making breakfast stuff that can be frozen.
I made 24 of these great cresent rolls with scrambled eggs and sausage. I also made 13 breakfast flautas with scrambled eggs , Jimmy Dean breakfast sausage and cheese. Also made a pumpkin pie for a future post. I love having breakfast stuff in the freezer for those hectic mornings.
Michael had to go to Buffalo, New York on Tuesday for the week. He built some stall doors for two more stalls before he left. We knew we were going to start breeding that week so these doors were for the new, smaller version of the “Love Shack.”
Well, that is all the energy I have for this post. I’ll let you know all the other stuff that we did in the next post.
Good night,
Karen
Dear Karen, You have been so busy. (When do you sleep?) So much baking. And a move. That’s huge. and I loved hearing about the soap. That’s one thing I’ve not done but would really love to one day. I have a dear friend who has nine children, yes nine. We’ve talked about making soap together for Christmas baskets for years, still haven’t done it. Maybe this year. Have a wonderful week. XOXO
It is so easy. Just be careful with the lye. I like this site for recipes (and other stuff). You can actually buy everything you need from them to make a particular recipe. I does take 6 – 8 weeks to cure. That is why I made that one batch, so I could give as Christmas gifts. Once you get all the stuff you need (buy it from places like Goodwill) you will love making soap. http://www.soap-making-resource.com/soap-recipes.html
Have a great Monday,
Karen
Karen you need to post your to do list before the weekend just to get me motivated to keep up. My list is much shorter. I bet your kitchen smells wonderful.
That wouldn’t be very nice of me 🙂
Actually, most of these things are always in the back of my mind. I just need the time to do it. The time usually doesn’t show itself until a day or two ahead.
Then of course, I hopefully have all the ingredients I need.
A short list is a wonderful thing, enjoy it!
Have a great day,
Karen
Ok, you asked for it 🙂
This Weekend:
Spread hog fuel
Pumpkin puree
soap
pumpkin pie (future post)
pumpkin cake roll (freezer)(maybe future post)
sour cream raisin pie (future post)
turkey gravy (future post)
November dinner menu.
I’ll let you know what I actually get done.
Take care,
Karen
Oh dear, you have been so busy. You must feel good now that the move is over. That’s a lot of hard work.
It’s it nice to have so much food in the freezer and a new batch of curing soap? That’s a nice looking bar.
You have so much accomplished as usual. Get some rest, you deserve it.
From one busy gal to another 🙂
Sometimes I get flack for spending my “free time” doing things like cooking. However, it makes life less stressful which is good.
Off to bed,
Karen
