I’m interested in getting some goats for milk i have a small homestead and was wondering what I would need to get a good set up going. And do you have any available for sale? Thank you
Hey Rob,
Thanks for the question. For goats, if I had to list the three main things, it would be 1) fenced in secure area. 2) Shelter. 3) Quality Grass hay. Then depending on whether you are going to be milking, keep them for pets, use them for brush control, would then determine what additional facilities would be needed and feed/nutritional requirements as well.
We have 5 wethers and 1 doeling left.
For fencing, we use 4′ woven field fence, with the 4″ openings. Our fence is very strong and keeps them in and predators out. We then divide up the large pasture into smaller pastures with portable electric fence, and move them around, its called rotational grazing.
Feel free to call me, below is my cell phone. Depending on your situation, there are many variables, I don’t want to bore you with details that might not apply.
Thanks, talk to you soon,
Michael
