So the other day after work I took the goats out for a little stroll on the hillside below the barn. They have grown tired of their plain old pasture and were more than happy to go exploring. All along this hillside there are maples, blackberry, lots of grasses and weeds, basically a goats dream. Plus they get lots of exercise walking up and down the hill.
It was a lot of fun watching them enjoy the new food and terrain, especially the babies with so much energy and spring in the legs. They would be bounding over everything and by the end of the day they were all pretty tuckered out. The bonus of it all, FREE FOOD!
Until next time,
Michael
Great pictures!! They sure looked like they enjoyed their field trip into the woods. They are great looking goats!!
Hope you had fun as well….
Hi Joy, thank you. We are grateful to have the space and opportunities to provide for them. They are great little animals!
Michael,
Yes they are!! You are Blessed!! Keep up the good work with your wonderful animals. I love hearing about your farm. How is your wife Karen and your boys? Tell them hi.
Joy
Michael,
looks so nice!
I have 8 months of rescue goats and I have wooded space for them to roam but how do you ensure they don’t run off and don’t eat things that are not good for them?
Sandra
Hey Sandra,
Our larger pasture, which encompasses the hillside, is also fenced, as well as bordered by a creek. So We can turn them loose and they will still stay confined within our property. I love fences and depend on good fencing and would not consider having animals without very sturdy physical containment. Not only to keep them where they should be, but to protect them from predators as much as possible. Goats are very good at being selective and knowing what to eat, and what not to eat. I don’t worry too much about that. Thanks for commenting!
Will they eat poison oak?
Hi Dee,yes they will. Fortunately we don’t have much around the barn though, but lots of woody shrubs, blackberries, etc.
