Brown Sugar gave birth to two adorable kids last Thursday. Meet the first babies of 2017.
That is their heated dog crate. Since these two were born during 14° temperatures, Michael cut a hole in the top of the crate and inserted a heat lamp. Michael said when he was growing up, his uncle, who carried on with the family tradition of cattle ranching, would have a pretty large stall, fully enclosed, with many heat lamps for the calves that were born during extreme cold. This is our scaled down version.
Here is the baby doeling. She has some fun markings on her side and a white tipped tail.
Here is the baby buckling. It is amazing how alike they look.
Here are momma and her babies.
In case you are wondering how Brown Sugar had such lightly colored babies, here is the dad. Surfer Joe.
Sorry it has been a week since announcing their births. Blame it on the FREEZING temperatures and the multiple watering devices we had to thaw out every morning and evening.
More babies to come. Maybe in the next 24 hours.
Enjoy your day,
Karen
The two little ones are so cute cuddled in the crate! But 14 degrees = yikes! What an introduction into the world!
We still have snow, though finally last night it began to disappear, thankfully. Big Orange Nose, the snowman, keeled over yesterday so we knew there w/b an end to this on-going deep freeze and white-everything. My last look at the bee hives was good; there was a cluster in each hive, including the Espalin hive. Now to survive the wet weather.
We now have 7 little ones altogether. Jesi gave birth to two adorable brown babies on Wed. afternoon. Mouse just had 2 boys and a girl this morning. We still have four more goats that will be kidding. Things are “bouncing” right along.
I need your help in figuring out what I need to buy to take care of the bees. I’m so excited to get the hive and already thinking about more places for hives.
I’m very glad the snow is gone. Nice to see green grass again.
Take care,
Karen
Congrats to all – so adorable — and I’m sure LOTS of work with the cold!
Yes, tons of work. Now it has been pouring down rain. Gotta love Oregon.
Take care,
Karen
