Being busy, I’ve forgotten to post about our Thanksgiving turkey. It was delicious. You remember we celebrated with my family up in Portland.
We brought the leftover turkey home and put it in the refrigerator. The next day, I took it out to make lunch. I made myself a turkey, provolone, cranberry sauce panini. I left the turkey out for Michael to make his famous leftover sandwich. Basically it has everything on it. The boys like it.
Well, I got busy and the turkey never made it back to the refrigerator. I didn’t notice for a few hours. Well, by then I’m not willing to eat it nor am I willing to serve it to my family.
Then I remembered the chickens. I knew they would eat meat. I decided to let them try a distant cousin.
Here is what the turkey looked like when I put it in their outside pen.
It didn’t take them long to check it out before beginning to eat. That last picture is what it looked like the next morning. They had been closed up in their coop and it was freezing so what was left had some ice crystals on it.
I waited a couple of days before removing what was left. They continued to pick at it.
Here is what was left. I took it out and put it on the sidewalk to get a good picture of it.
Yup, they are omnivores.
I call them my garbage disposals.
Have a great day,
Karen
Oh my word. I can’t even believe it. That would have killed me to lose that turkey. I am big on turkey soup. But at least it didn’t go to waste! Nope, not a morsel! Your panini sounds delicious Karen. Seriously awesome eats!
Yes, it was a bummer. I would have at least made turkey stock but I still can’t pressure can because the range in the canning room is still busted. Only the chickens benefited.
