While the lower field was being mowed Joshua found a fledgling bird hopping around. He worried that it wouldn’t survive on its own. He caught it and made a home for it in the cage previously occupied by the Mourning Dove.
Cute little thing.
It slept in the cage in Joshua’s room that night. It woke him up in the morning with his sweet chirping.
We Googled what to do with a baby bird since we were not sure what to feed it.
Joshua made the wise decision to let it go. He took it back to the pasture and there were some Gold Finches in the area. He let the bird go and it flew off with the finches. Another happy bird story.
Now Joshua would like to tell you about the two dead mice…..
These are the field mice I killed.
We were mowing the field and there were mice all over the place.
I would follow the mower and whenever I saw a mouse running away I would chase it and club it over the head and kill it.
They aren’t very big.
Man were those things fun to kill.
Here is a poem I wrote about them.
“Two field mice. See how they run. They all ran away from the farmer’s tractor, but couldn’t escape the farmer’s son, who clubbed them on the head until they were dead. Two field mice.”
Karen here…. So now you see the two sides of an adolescent boy. What am I saying? Of men not just boys. The one side that loves to conquer and the other side that desires to protect and provide. They are a complex being. Raising them is a roller coaster ride that has many thrills. I love them so.
Karen and Joshua
Karen, your motherly heart of love is an inspiration to me! ~ Kim
Karen, you said it so well!! The desire to protect and the desire to conquer. These are God-given traits of men. I could not have said it better.
Joshua, I loved your poem and your heart for the protection of animals. God gave you the gift of “animal whisperer”. You are a natural and at ease with them, from bugs, snakes, frogs, geese. etc. etc.. I would like to say that mice in the field are not bad. They are the food your resident red-tailed eagle live on, and maybe the blue herons. We don’t like mice in our homes, to poop, eat our food. So maybe it would be good to keep them in the field to eat them rather than deal with them in your home. Just a thought.
You are an amazing son of God
Karen, somehow the first part of my msg is not here, so let me try to reproduce it. Simply put your insight into men and manhood is from God. You have it right. You give your three men(boys)the freedom to be who God made them to be. My day is complete each time I read your blog. I love you angel, Karren
