We have an area we call the Shire. It is a garden/orchard area, it is really quite pretty with a small ornamental pond, lots of shade, flowering plants and trees, and of course apple trees. We also have some plums, pears and a wonderful cherry tree. We finally replaced the old picket fence that used to define this space. The old fence was nice, but some of the posts were rotting and sections were not exactly upright anymore. It had served its purpose and needed to be replaced. Below is the new entryway with arbor. We widened the gate opening so we could drive the lawnmower thru the gate. I still have some little details to complete on the arbor, but it’s 95% done.
In the next picture, the fence going off to the right from the corner post is new, there wasn’t a fence there before. We decided to fully enclose the Shire, it looks more defined and complete this way. And in the summer/fall we will let the geese loose into the Shire to cleanup the fallen apples. That is going to save our backs! Also, our new blueberry patch is just off the frame to the right.
We now have two large gate openings, and we were able to reuse the gates the previous owner built, which I think are very nice.
And finally, to the left, you can see the last section still to be replaced. Sometime in the next month or two.
Feels good to have most of this done!
Until next time,
Michael
Such commendable work. Little masterpieces of beauty all over.. Love you …
So sweet of you. I know you have a creative side, and we know your hubby does too. I don’t have a creative bone in my body. I helped Michael a wee bit on the fence but he had to explain a lot! You may have noticed I am no longer on Facebook. I’m glad to connect with you here. Hope you are doing well. Praying for you both. Love,Karen
looks very nice!
Thanx Elaine. There is always something that needs to be done. Getting the garden planted is next.
Hugs,Karen
Straight out of one of those charming garden magazines.
AWW, thanks. The majority of the fence was falling down so it needed to be done. Michael being an expert on building fences really pays off for us. It is amazing how many things you can do with cattle panels.
Looks really nice Michael. When do you rest???
I think Michael’s view on rest is something he will do “someday”. He pretty much has to be sick to take some rest.
PS, thanx for taking care of mom. I’ll be up soon.
Hugs,Karen
The grounds look amazing! I hardly recognize the place.
Thanx Natasha. It is fun to see how we are personalizing it. I’m sure it will take years to get everything we want to do to get done.
Hugs,Karen
