Here is Brown Sugar when we brought her home last June.
She wasn’t quite a year old and very lean.
Here she is today. Pregnant belly.
Her udder is forming. Those teets better get bigger before I milk her!
Here is a shot of Halley Berry from the top. No idea if she is pregnant.
Here is Brown Sugar. She looks a little more pregnant.
The side views are really different.
Halle Brown Sugar.
Brown Sugar’s due date is April 8. That is day 150. Kids born at 140 days are viable. Typical is 145 – 150 days. Which means anywhere from April 3 to April 8 is expected. Since this is her first freshening we don’t have any history to go off of.
Who knows, maybe the next post about our goats will be birth shots!
I’ll keep you updated,
Karen
Oh my, she sure looks large. Looks like she is eating for a team too. You must be so excited about her. It’s coming up so soon.
Can’t wait to see the birth shots. I hope everything goes well.
Oh yes, she is big. I feel her pain.
God willing it will be textbook delivery. Not sure how many she has in there. Twins are common but can but as many as five. I don’t think she is big enough for five to be in there.
I’m guessing two.
I’ll post as soon as it happens.
Karen
Hi there! I’m glad to see Halle is doing well. It’s been a long time since we’ve talked. I occasionally check to see how she’s doing. Halle looks pregnant to me! Congrats on the upcoming babies! Halle’s daughter that I sold last year is due to kid next week.
Hi Katherine,
How is married life? 🙂
Halle is wonderful. We have labeled her our resident foodie. She will eat anything and everything. She doesn’t like sharing…always butting the younger three away from the food 🙂
Just not sure what her due date is. We think the most likely is May 5th but she is so hard to tell when she comes into heat that it makes it hard to know if she is bread.
Brown Sugar kidded last night. Wasn’t as text book as I would have liked but we got it done in the end.
I will post about Brown Sugar on Monday and then it’s just about a month until (we hope) Halle Berry will have her turn.
Take care. Stop by any time you like,
Karen
Karen,
Married life is going pretty good! We are finally mostly settled into our new house and getting situated. 🙂
Congrats on your new babies! 😀 I read the blog post you posted Monday. Sounds like quite the learning experience but good job you guys on getting him going. You’ll be a pro at this stuff in no time!
Last year, if it makes you feel better, Halle kidded around 2pm in the afternoon and kidded exactly on 147 days. Her udder didn’t get really full until right before she kidded.
Next time we’re in Amity I’d love to stop by and see her. I’m so glad she has such a wonderful home with you guys.
Take Care!
Katherine
I’m glad you two are getting settled.
I’m also glad that Halled kidded in the afternoon. I’ve heard some talk that they tend to kid around the same time each time they kid. Great for Halle….not so much for Brown Sugar 🙂
Stop by any time. I’m sure Halle would love to see you.
Take care,
Karen
So, as far as timing goes I have had my doe Moon since the very beginning and 3 years in a row has kidded between 2-4pm. So hoping Halle does her afternoon birth for you! I’m going to talk with my husband but if you guys are around this weekend I’d love to stop by!
Hope all is well,
Katherine
I’ve heard there is a pattern with NDG kiddings. An afternoon kidding would be lovely. I guess that means there is a chance that Brown Sugar will be in the middle of the night again 🙁
Yes, we are home this weekend. Halle was a stinker tonight. Michael bought some new hay and she doesn’t like it. She stands at the stall door and when you try to get in she pushes her way out and goes looking for her “good hay”. Tonight she did so when I was carrying a bucket of clean water…she spilled it all over the place.
Hope to see you this weekend.
Karen
I’d add a few more days to “typical” LOL. My Daphne is right at 150 or 151 and looking like she’s in no hurry! It’s a pins and needles time of year. Here’s hoping your kidding goes well!
She actually kidded last night. 1:30 a.m. Since it was technically Friday a.m. that was 145 days.I’m going to do a post on it at some point this weekend (hopefully for Monday) and will tell of our 2.5 hour adventure with the first born. She had two a doeling and a buckling. I’m more concerned about Halle since we are not positive when she got pregnant. At least she is an experienced mom and historically only has one baby.
Take care,
Karen
