Nothing is better on a warm summer morning than Our Favorite Homemade Granola. Ok, actually anytime of the day or any season, this granola is GREAT.
Yogurt and granola is one of my favorite breakfasts. The boys love it, although they prefer warmer breakfasts in the winter.
Years ago I spent a weekend at Cricketwood Bed and Breakfast in Bend Oregon. They served wonderful breakfasts and this granola was one of them. They have since ceased operations but the granola recipe lives on in our household.
I love to make homemade yogurt and someday will share my recipe with you, but for the time being I enjoy the Greek yogurt brand Fage. If I want a little fruit flavor in it then I will mix in some homemade strawberry freezer jam.
I thought I would share this recipe with you.
Honey Almond Granola
Ingredients
- 4 cups Quaker Oats
- 1/3 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/2 cup wheat germ
- 1/3 cup sesame seeds
- 1/3 cup oil
- 1/2 cup flaked/shredded sweetened coconut
- 1 cup chopped/slivered almonds
- 1/4 cup honey
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Measure all ingredients into a large bowl and mix together.
- Pour mixture into a 9x13 dish. Bake for 30 minutes stirring every 10 minutes.
- If you like larger pieces of granola then do not stir when the 30 minutes are over. Give it one last stir if you like it crumbly.
- Let it cool then store in a tightly sealed container
- ( I use a Ziploc gallon freezer bag)
I think you’ll enjoy this as much as we do.
Have a great day,
Karen
The other day I was thinking about making some granola. I was especially thinking it would be good to make in my wood cookstove because precise heat and timing aren’t essential. Your timing and recipe are perfect!
Oh, I’m so glad the timing has worked out. It isn’t a super sweet granola but it is really good.
Take care,
Karen
